One of my favorite clothing companies is having a photo contest. So, before leaving California, I took some shots of Special K in a couple outfits. The one above is my favorite, and it's the one I submitted. It looks pixelated because it's a reduced size as needed for the contest.

Below are ones that I like but didn't quite cut it for me. She was a great little model...when she WANTED to be!

I had a change of pants for her (the one above - she's supposed to be in Gigi pants and polka dot shoes) but in order to keep her happy, I let her keep the pants and shoes...compromise to keep the model happy. ;) It was so fun to do these...I have so much catching up to do!!

My Best Friends' BROTHER'S Wedding...

Being back in Salt Lake has its perks - weddings! The Salt Lake Temple has SO many photo opportunities and I found myself wanting to take all day taking pictures. Luckily for Melissa & Anthon, I didn't do that to them. My friend Jenny met me at the temple and together we took almost 1,000 pictures. It was also fun that she spoke German as well, and we were able to easily communicate with Melissa's family. How nice was it to double team this!? Awesome.

They both looked stunning and giddy - I wish them a happy marriage. Such a beautiful couple! Congratulations guys!

Baby A

Baby A was supposed to come 4 weeks later than he arrived. If that were the case, you might be seeing MODEST pictures of his birth. But since his mommy was on vacation up North and I was on vacation in the West, here are his newborn shots, 5 weeks later. He's still such a little newborn, smaller than any of my babies! He was such a good sleeper, slept the whole time!

This engagement session was so fun to shoot. I met Melissa for the first time and she is AMAZING. Her eyes light up a room, her laugh is contagious, and her smile is almost enough to bring about world peace. Melissa is German and Anthon, who is my friend's baby brother, served a mission in Germany. So, with my Schweizer-Deutsch (3 years in Zurich), I attempted to speak to them in German. It was fun. Aren't they a great couple!?

I've MOVED

Hello clients, fellow photographers, family, fans, & friends. As many of you know, I have recently moved from Zurich, Switzerland to Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Switzerland holds a special place in my heart and always will. This said, I would be open to coming back to the Zurich area for photoshoots if people are still interested. To do this, we would have to pool together several families/people and fill up at least 5-6 time slots at $250 per one hour session.

I just did a wedding for the first time in a long time, pictures to follow.

Thank you for your support and love, we are settled in our new home and I have some new photog toys to play with. So, life is good, even outside of CH.

At Christmastime when we were in Salt Lake, I took my Sister-in-law's family pics. It was cold and there wasn't much landscape. We went over to Wheeler Farm and got some great pics. Spencer would NOT smile for anything so we took some individual shots of him later. I just saw them hanging up in her house this weekend and they look great. I was so thrilled to see my work printed. I can't wait to move into our new house and print some pics of the kids.

6 Month Old Twins

I love these twin girls. They are just a month older than my little boy and double the trouble. I took their 3 month old photos at my place, but this time I went to their beautiful flat. I can't imagine having two of everything like they have! The girls are so different, and funny - when one smiles, the other is crying or sad. However, we managed to get some great pics.

Morges

These are our good friends that live in Geneva. We went down to Geneva for the weekend and had a great time with them. Since Christmas was coming, Jessi wanted a family picture for their Christmas card. We drove to the beautiful town of Morges. This was the first setting and after taking only 10 photos, I said let's move to a different location. I showed Jessi the pictures and she said no need to take more, she liked this one. So it was the easiest shoot I've done. It also may have been the coldest to date. ;) You guys are what makes it so beautiful!

This family is such a beautiful family inside and out. I was so glad they were willing to bring their fun, red couch. As it turns out, their engagement pictures from 10 years ago were also taken on a red couch. Perfect. We had a lot of fun playing in the forest too. After the shoot, the kids were rewarded, getting to celebrate Halloween! There were lots more pictures that I loved, which I'll post when I get a chance.

Little Lyla was only a week old when we took these photos and you could just smell her newness. I loved it! She was so sleepy and peaceful...when we weren't "torturing" her. :) Cory loves his little girl so much he hardly minded when she peed all over him.

These 3 month old twins were so great to work with, they are so gorgeous AND blemish free. However, we could not get them to crack a smile. We'll get them for sure next time. With twins it can mean twice the time shooting and these two did great.

Despite being 9 months pregnant (sitting on a towel in their car just in case my water broke), I had a lot of fun with the Huntington family. First we drove to Brunnen, Switzerland - one of my favorite places - to get some shots of the mountains. We got some of that, but my favorite ended up being this one with their barefeet hanging over the dock. We only got in a little bit of trouble for being on private property ;).

Since they were moving back to the states in one week, Angela wanted some pictures of their family in their neighborhood. I loved this idea. And how cool is it that hey live in such a picturesque spot?

It was a photographer's dream: old barns, wood piles, gorgeous flowers, farm equipment, beautiful views, animal life...so SWISS.

I have been SO excited for these twin boys to be born! Liam & Dominic are my friend's little newborns. I got to do the shoot when they were about a month old. Here are my favorites of them together.

This was my first twins newborn shoot and I found it to be more challenging than expected. It's enough work trying to keep one baby asleep - but TWO! Dominic decided he didn't want to cooperate most of the time, but luckily, we managed to get some good shots of him/them regardless. Even though they were still really small, I wish I could have gotten them at 6 days instead of 6 weeks because when they are SO new, they sleep ALL the time. I'm looking forward to that time with my own baby boy - coming soon!

Three Month Old Alea

I love this baby's dark hair and bright blue eyes. She reminds me of my little girl when she was this age: stunning, spunky with lots of edible rolls! I love the way her room was decorated too. Her mom, Kasey, bought a bunch of darling reusable diapers, but as it turns out, they're way cuter than they are functional! So I bought a few off her to use in future shoots.

This little darling came over to my house to do the shoot with her mom and brother. My daughter played with her brother while mom and I tried to keep the tears back. At first, it seemed she would cry as soon as the camera was in front of her! We soon figured out that with some Gerber's snacks, she was happy as could be in no time. It was fun to see her sweet personality come out and she hammed it up for me. I'm sad they'll be leaving Switzerland so soon! Best of luck, guys.

Fields of Flowers

I love this time of year in Switzerland. The rolling, green hills covered in yellow flowers just make my heart sing. I've been wanting to get some shots of my daughter playing in these fields and yesterday, I finally got the chance. I've only edited a few so far, so this is just a taste. These are all done with a vintage feel but I'll post more with natural colors later.

The farmers have already started mowing down these fields in some areas, so if you want pictures of your kids with the flowers, call me and we'll find a place with flowers a plenty.

This little baby was such an angel for our shoot. She didn't cry at all and put up with outfit changes. You could tell she didn't want to miss the fun though. When she finally fell asleep, I took a few shots and she woke up. I hope you enjoy these Tina, she's so precious.

These two were great to take pictures of - all in their own living room! Finia fought back the tears and pretty soon we were both laughing. I think there are some great smiles from her. And even though Navin was eating half of the time, we got some clean, non-chewing shots. Despite the language barrier and with the help of their oh-so-talented multi-lingual mom, we pulled it off!

Post Processing Effects

This is a bit belated for me to say Happy Valentines Day, but I've had a few shoots in a row that have kept me busy. I just finished the photo project I started, and the results are below. For each picture, I took a different action or effect tutorial to learn some of the amazing things I can do with my new toy - PHOTOSHOP!! For those of you who want to learn, I got mine from Coffee Shop and Pioneer Woman. I guess you can say that taking the time to learn Photoshop is like a Valentine's Day present (and beyond) to myself. I feel so grateful to be at a point in my life where I can develop my talents and love for photography.

Textures - there are all sorts of textures you can add to photos to create an old "oil painting" feel.

Color Filter - this one was done with a color filter which in this case, I filtered the blacks to be a slightly lighter color. This was done in Aperture. It's interesting, but needs something else.

Color Pop - this one was out of focus but I added a sharpening and color pop effect that saved it from going into the trash bin. I love that it shows pure joy and those sporadic teeth.

Vintage - I almost think it looks like an old newspaper photo or something, but I added in a muted color rather than having it black and white. It diminishes the quality of the photo but I think with an added texture and maybe a more colorful photo, it would be very cool.

Color Pop/Softening effect - I love how she puts up her hands now and says "I don't know?" and love the way this picture turned out. This effect softened up her face without losing quality and made it a bit more interesting.

Sharpening - the photo was a bit blurry everywhere except the focal point due to the lens I used. I just sharpened it a bit and made it more contrasty.

Black & White with color - Now that I see it here, I would mute the pink a bit more as it looks to stark. I actually don't like this picture much at all (composition, framing, that ugly toy car that I love because she loves, laundry basket, etc.)

Hello everyone,

I know it probably seems like I've dropped off the face of the planet, but I'm still here. I'm back from my holidays in the states and I also have some exciting news - I am pregnant. This is the main reason you haven't seen any updates from me. I always get sick in the first trimester and I was lucky enough to spend most of that time being taken care of by mom and mom-in-law and of course, my wonderful husband. I am happy to say that starting this week, I have not been nauseous, have had energy, and have taken hundreds of photos. Yep, I'm back to my old self. So, stay tuned for more photos to be posted soon.

Fall Leaves

I started a new exercise regime - yesterday - but so far I'm 2 for 2. It's all about getting out of the house for an hour or two and walking. So yesterday I just got out of the house, took a walk up to one of my favorite parks (yes, uphill, it's supposed to be exercise). I got to the park and relished in the beautiful morning. The clouds were half full and blocking a bit of the sun casting the perfect light over the green landscapes. There was a Swiss flag, cows behind it, and Lake Zurich with the snow-capped Alps as a backdrop. To my dismay, I left without the camera. I decided to just take in the beauty and once I got home, I'd return with the camera.

Well, that did not happen until today. I knew then that I had missed the shot but I was hoping for the same forces to combine. Unfortunately, the sun blared and the cows were in a different pasture and hazy clouds covered the Alpen backdrop.

However, it made me focus on other beautiful things. The Fall Leaves. I love fall pictures, they are great for Christmas cards. If you want family photos or kid photos taken with the leaves, call me.

TIP OF THE WEEK:

White Balance. It can make all the difference in the world to your photograph and that point was reiterated to me as I played around with my WB settings this morning.

This one looks like I took it on a cold, almost icy winter's day. This was Auto WB.

These two look warm, like Thanksgiving dinner. And today was warmer than it was cold. This better represents what it actually looked like and it has a "homier" feeling.

This one I played with in Aperture afterwards. I upped the contrast and black point.

Danny & Rach

About a month ago, Erin and I met in Rapperswil to get the kids pictures taken. It's such a picturesque little town. With a little bribing, Danny and Rach put up with me for over an hour. I loved the door we put Rach in front of and how Danny is scratching his bug bite on his arm in half the shots! And I'm so glad Rach brought her pink scarf. It's so girly.

He was such a happy baby, which made taking pictures easy. Eva and I did the shoot over two separate days since we decided to try out a few new things. I'm so glad, I love the way the 2nd set turned out although there are some good ones from the first as well. I'm really excited Eva is taking up photography as a hobby now. Let's go shoot!

I love this Catamini sweater and so I put together this outfit for church. With the bright pinks and the contrast with the brown, I couldn't resist a little photoshoot around the neighborhood while daddy took a little siesta. I just got back from vacation and I did two shoots before that so more to come!

I kind of like that it's crooked. I put it straight and then took it back to this. What do you think?

Jenna and I took the girls to this beautiful hill in Thalwil with loads of these little yellow flowers. It was mid day which is not when I usually shoot but it was the only window we had.

Little did we know at the time that each flower that touched her dress would leave a dark brown "hot chocolate" looking spots on her beautiful Thai silk dress the next day. NIGHTMARE!! Jenna worked her magic and Lexi still looked stunning for her big day.

Let me introduce you to Kelsey, my child or "doll" that I dress up and take on shoots. She's such a happy baby and a great model. You will see much more of her to come, I'm sure.

In the before, you can see the exposure and sharpness was a little off. In the after, I used Aperture to post saturation, vibrancy, added a vingette, exposure and some contrast and voolia, a picture that pops.
